CBAP Certification Eligibility

The eligibility criteria to become a Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) are as follows:

1. Business Analysis Experience:

  • Applicants must have a minimum of 7,500 hours of business analysis experience within the last 10 years.
  • As part of the required 7,500 total hours of experience, at least 3,600 hours must be completed in total, with a minimum of 900 hours in 4 of the 6 BABOK® Guide Knowledge Areas.

2. Professional Development:

  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of 35 hours of professional development within the last 4 years.
  • This professional development should be related to business analysis and can include courses, workshops, conferences, or training programs.

3. References:

  • Applicants must provide two references that can attest to their business analysis experience.
  • These references should be from either a career manager or a client.

4. Agree to the Code of Conduct:

  • Applicants must agree to the IIBA® Code of Conduct for CBAP Certification.

CBAP Certification cost comprises three parts – membership fees, application fees and exam fees. The membership fees depends on your country of residence. The certification fees details for CBAP are provided in the table below:

As an example, total cost for CBAP certification for Region I aspirant (United States of America) is:

  • Membership fees – USD 139, Application fees USD 145 and the exam fees is USD 350 resulting in a total fees of USD 634.

As an example, total cost for CBAP certification for Region III aspirant (India) is:

  • Membership fees – USD 55, Application fees USD 145 and the exam fees is USD 350 resulting in a total fees of USD 550.

Validity of CBAP Certification

The Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) certification is valid for three years from the date of issuance.

To renew their CBAP certification(with a grace period of 1year), individuals must complete a minimum of 60 Continuing Development Units (CDUs) within three years of the certification date.

CBAP Syllabus

The CBAP certification examination is based on the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) guide. The BABOK guide is structured into knowledge areas, techniques, perspectives and competencies.

CBAP Exam Pattern

The CBAP Certification exam is an assessment that is taken using a computer, either online via proctor format or at a designated PSI test center. The CBAP exam is a multiple choice questions-based exam. The questions are designed to test your ability to apply the BABOK concepts and framework. There is a mix of scenario and case study-based questions. The empirical data suggests that the case study-based questions could be anywhere between 20%-35%. The case studies are large (one or two pages) and multiple questions are based on the case studies.

In order to be able to take the exam, there are certain requirements that must be met, which can be found in the exam information guidelines. Here is the exam pattern for the CBAP certification exam:

  • There are 120 MCQs
  • Duration of the exam is 210 minutes (3.5 hours)
  • Each question will have four options
  • Every question will have one correct answer
